Welcome to thedaddy.guide’s UPPAbaby Vista 2017 Stroller Review. If you’re new to the parenting/stroller scene, the Vista is one of the most versatile and popular strollers on the market… and it was my first stroller purchase several years ago. Lots of available add-ons to the Vista which allows you to “grow” with this stroller… and grow we did! We originally purchased it with he bassinet. Since our second child we’ve added the ‘double mode’ which is the addition of a second seat. Most recenlty we tacked on the ‘Stroller Board’ which our older child loves when he’s not hurling himself off it… see detailed review below.
UPPAbaby vista 2017 stroller review – 2017 model Updates!
Not much has changed for this stroller (a.k.a the versatile workhorse). Here are a few of the upgraded items:
- Stroller frame – A bit more more narrow which allows for maneuvering in tighter spaces.
- The wheels – Upgraded to solid polyurethane
- The sunshade – Now made out of a higher quality fabric and locks in place when you slide it down.
- Leather accents – They’ve included a fancier option of genuine leather handle bar and genuine leather bumper bar so you can pimp your ride out a little
- Weight reduction – The weight dropped from about 27.5 lbs to 26 lbs. Doesn’t seem like a striking amount of weight, but after the 1000th time lifting it in and out of the car… you may appreciate the 1.5 lb difference!
Updates at a closer look
- New colors. All the bright colors are out, deep rich tones are in. For 2017 Vista has added Austin Hunter Green, Henry Blue Marl, Dennison Burgundy, and Loic White. I kind of miss that bright orange, yellow and pink.
- Handlebar and bumper bar. The handlebar and bumper bar covers got updated from rubber to real leather on selected colors. The full grain cow hide leather is REACH certified. No chemicals used in tanning process so it will get softer and darker over time. You can also buy the covers separately for older models and zip over the rubber handlebar. Now, if you feel like you will be throwing this stroller around and don’t want the leather, you can still get it with the rubber cover on selected colors.
- Frame. The frame is narrower now in the back making it easier to navigate in tight spaces.
- Updated sunshade. The sunshade had been upgraded to a higher quality woven fabric and the sunvisor locks better in place when you bring it up and down.
- Better tires. The 2017 model has solid polyurethane tires instead of hard rubber. They are more durable and provide a smoother ride.
- Lighter weight. The frame and tires updated resulted in a lighter weight of 26 lbs. That is 1.5 lbs less than a previous model.
- New accessory. New wheel reflectors for additional safety
Stroller weight: 26 lbs (frame + seat)
Weight limit: 50 lbs (main seat), 35 lbs (RumblerSeat)
Folded dimensions: 25.5”W x 14”L x 33”H(with the seat)
Handle bar height: 39.5″ – 42.5″
Seat to canopy height: 19.5″ – 21.5″
Rear wheels: 11.5″
Front wheels: 8″
Overall length: 37″
Overall width: 25.5″
The Vista 2017 also features a reversible seat, huge canopy with a pop-out SPF 50+ sun visor, all-terrain tires, basket, adjustable handle bar, adjustable leg rest, one-step fold (we like a lot!), one-hand recline, all-wheel suspension and some other little stuff.
The canopy is not only large, but also has a large SPF 50+ pop-out sunvisor that goes all the way to the bumper bar. For 2017 the canopy has been updated to a new higher quality woven fabric. The sun-visor is also made out of wrinkle-resistant material and locks in place much better when you bring it up and down. The canopy itself also slides up and down the frame to accommodate an older or younger child.
There is large ‘peekaboo’ window made out of dark mesh with a magnetic closure. Velcro is to a sleeping baby like nails on a chalkboard! The dark mesh of the peekaboo window also provides shade and a better air circulation on a hot summer day since the canopy is attached to the back of the seat and there is no additional mesh.
Adjustable handle bar
The telescoping handle bar goes from 39.5 to 42.5″ making it comfortable for taller and shorter parents. To extend it, all you need to do is push the button in the middle of the handle bar and pull it up. Easy! For 2017, the handlebar covers on selected colors have been upgraded to a high quality real leather. It’s worth mentioning, that there is no chemicals used in tanning process of the leather and that it’s REACH certified meeting EU requirements for chemical testing. If you have an older model, you can order the leather cover separately.
The roomy seat is 12″ wide and 19.5″ from the back of the seat to the top of the canopy. But, you can slide the canopy up the frame to get 2 more inches making it 21.5″. The seat is reversible so your child can look at you or the world. You need to remove your child first. uppababy vista review
The one-hand 180-degree lever recline has 5 positions and is suitable for a child from 3 months and up to 50 lbs. I also like that it’s very upright seat in the most upright position, I also know this is very important feature for some parents.
Adjustable leg rest
There is an adjustable 10″ leg rest which will provide your baby with more flat surface to stretch his/her little legs. Since the leg rest is part of the seat, it works in both modes. For an older child there is a foot rest that is attached to the frame, because of that it’s not adjustable.
5 point harness
It has a padded adjustable 5 point harness with a center release button. This button is very easy to unlock so your child will be able to escape (as soon as they figure it out).
Bumper bar INCLUDED!
The bumper bar is removable and swing away for easy ins and outs. For 2017, the cover has been upgraded to the high quality real leather that also matches the handlebar cover. You can still get the rubber cover on some of the colors.
This is probably one of the largest basket on the market. It can hold up to 30 lbs! It offers easy access which means you can get things in easily even when the seat is fully reclined. The basket size reduced when you add the second RubleSeat in the back, but, you also have the option of configuring the second RubleSeat in the front position (which allows you to keep the large basket space underneath).
It rolls on four solid polyurethane wheels with 11.5″ wheels in the back and 8″ wheels in the front. Solid tires means no pumping air. You’ll also never get a flat all while getting a cushioned ride. This is an all-terrain stroller that will handle a lot of different terrains like grass, gravel or uneven pavement. It is great for long walks at the park or on the city streets.
For 2017, the tires has been upgraded from hard rubber to the polyurethane. For those of you who don’t know, the polyurethane is an artificial rubber that combines strength of rigid plastics with the flexibility and elasticity of the rubber. As a result, it provides exceptional abrasion and tear-resistance allowing to increase load-bearing capacity and impact-resistance. Great upgrade!
To make the ride even smoother UPPAbaby has added the independent shock-absorbing front and rear wheel suspension.
The one-step brake located on the right wheel which is sandal friendly
The fold is one-step and super easy so it can be folded with or without the seat. Of course removing the seat first will make it much lighter and easier to load into the trunk so if you have a bad back, I recommend separating the seat from the frame. Like most all-terrain strollers with the reversible seat, Vista is pretty bulky and takes up a lot of room in the trunk. The folded dimensions with the seat attached are 25”W x 15”L x 32”H, without the seat 25”W x 14”L x 32”H. It does have an automatic lock and standing fold.
Matching bassinet INCLUDED!
It plugs right in to the frame instead of the seat and weighs 8.4 lbs and is designed for a baby from birth to 20 lbs. The cool thing about this bassinet is that it’s deep enough for you to use at home for overnight sleeping. Great extra bed for your baby! The large canopy unzips in the back exposing a dark mesh that allows for better air flow. While keeping your baby cool and comfortable, the dark mesh also provides sun protection. To provide your baby with even more sun protection there is a large pop-out SPF 50+ sunvisor that has been upgraded for 2017 and now is made out of better quality wrinkle-resistant material. Just like on the seat, the sunvisor locks in place much better than before. Below are 2 images of the bassinet in Jake and in Taylor.
The perforated mattress pad and vented base allow for added breath-ability with a soft organic based mattress inside. The water-repellent inner liner keeps the space dry and comfortable because these guys throw up and spill things all the time! Add to it diaper disasters and you will never get it out. The liner and boot cover is very easy to remove for cleaning. The mattress cover and the zip-out liner are machine washable. This bassinet folds down for compact transportation. The bassinet comes with a bug net and bassinet storage bag. You can purchase a rain cover for the bassinet separately.
Second seat option
You can turn your Vista into a double tandem stroller by adding a RumblerSeat which is a full size toddler seat. You can add the RumblerSeat to the front or to the back of the stroller. The benefit of putting it in the front is that you still have your large basket for the baby stuff. When you attach it to the back, the child’s feet end up in the basket taking up a lot of room.
The seat is 12″ wide with 17″ – 20″ from the back of the seat to the top of the canopy. Since the canopy is height adjustable, you can get three extra inches. The second seat has also the same one-hand lever recline just like the main seat. It can accommodate a child from 3 months and up to 35 lbs. It includes a padded adjustable 5-point harness with center release buckle and a bumper bar. The canopy is great! Just like on the main seat it has large pop-out SPF 50+ sunvisor and dark mesh peekaboo window with magnetic closure. The RumblerSeat also comes with a bug net.
Travel system option
The Vista can be transformed into a travel system by using UPPAbaby Mesa car seat that attaches directly to the Vista. The Mesa car seat is on the expensive side, but it’s an awesome car seat. It’s super easy to install and comes with a color indicator that changes colors from red to green when installed correctly. Another important safety feature is an adjustable headrest with side impact protection that is 4X safer than premium car seats. This seat is great for PREEMIES from 4 lbs+ and can accommodate a baby up to 35 lbs. This is one of my favorite car seats on the market! The Vista is also compatible with popular car seats like Chicco, Maxi-Cosi and Graco Classic. You will need to get correct adapter for those car seats.
8 different seating combinations
The 2017 Vista truly grows with your family. The adapters allow you to accommodate up to 3! Now you can have two 2 infant car seats, 2 bassinets, 2 toddler seats. Add a PiggyBack board for an older child. IMPORTANT: It’s worth mentioning that some seat combinations require additional adapters.
The UPPAbaby Vista PiggyBoard – found here on Amazon for $119.00 is easily attached to the stroller and can handle a child up to 55 lbs. The board folds up and out of the way when not needed. It will also still allow the stroller to fold up when attached. The Piggy Board is great, the only concern is that when my 2 year old gets bored, he starts to play games and hang off the board. Needless to say that’s not a good thing. Also, their foot can access the parking break somewhat easily… DOH!
